Give Yourself and Someone Else a Holiday Present… An Apology

A question that I often ask of new coaching clients (business leaders of all stripes) very early in the relationship is, “To whom do you owe an apology, and why?” Concurrently, I disclose an example of my own in an effort to demonstrate fairness, and set a high bar. Most people respond sincerely, prompting a follow-on question, “When do you plan to clean that up?” Gulp.

Upon following thru with the mea culpa, most then seem to find that having made the apology and closed the loop serves to unburden them, AND triggers a beneficial reset for the relationship going forward. Ding!

So, as we approach the holiday season and perhaps some fresh starts, here’s a suggestion: Rather than carry the burden of owed apologies into 2021, why not clean them up now? I think you’ll be glad you did.

Stay safe, enjoy the holidays!
